A lost hook distance occurs since hoist underhung from the cross girder.
Trolleys mostly cannot go to sides as the trolleys of double girder cranes do since runways and by design.
For loads capacities mostly heavier than 10 tons double girder cranes seems to be as a favor.
Service and maintenance mostly is easier at double girder cranes.
Double Girder Cranes;
Top running double girder crane has a greater lift than a single girder crane but the cross girders extend lower. To keep the extra lift and raise the cross girders, a double girder crane.
Cross girders maybe as "L" shape of box girders to allow the trolley now called as "Ultra Low Headroom" option . The trolley used position the hoist between cross girders, allowing the beams to be closer to the ceiling and have more lift than an underhung trolley. This is a special engineering design.
