SINGLE GIRDER and DOUBLE GIRDER OVERHEAD CRANES

Advantages of Single Girder Cranes;

  • Cheaper than double girder cranes about 15-20%
  • Equal in strength, durability and rigidity compared to double girder cranes by design.
  • Cross (main) girder is at higher elevation compared to double girder cranes.

Disadvantages of Single Girder Cranes;

  • A lost hook distance occurs since hoist underhung from the cross girder.
  • Trolleys mostly cannot go to sides as the trolleys of double girder cranes do since runways and by design.
  • For loads capacities mostly heavier than 10 tons double girder cranes seems to be as a favor.
  • Service and maintenance mostly is easier at double girder cranes.

Double Girder Cranes;

  • Top running double girder crane has a greater lift than a single girder crane but the cross girders extend lower. To keep the extra lift and raise the cross girders, a double girder crane.
  • Cross girders maybe as "L" shape of box girders to allow the trolley now called as "Ultra Low Headroom" option . The trolley used position the hoist between cross girders, allowing the beams to be closer to the ceiling and have more lift than an underhung trolley. This is a special engineering design.
